about the website

i've always wanted a personal website since i was little, i saw myspace profiles and thought i wanted to customize my own space too. free from social media and such.

here i can do whatever i want, so feel free to lurk around!

for a while that was too long i thought that you had to be a professional to be a webmaster(i mean this is still somewhat true). but turns out that you should just run a website. i think mine is enough lol. thanks to mousecky for these 100 questions!

1. Please introduce yourself.: i'm aner(you're shocked right). i like all different sorts of a beautiful word of art!
2. How long have you been making websites?: since the beginning of 2025, i'm still pretty new. although, i was learning html and css when i was in 5th grade, but just the basics.
3. And what got you into the hobby?: being able to get creative, total freedom of speech and a feeling that i made something big(no).
4. What kind of website are you most interested in?: websites with drawings, games and of course the personal ones!
5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?: doesn't really sound like me, but i have a to-do list for the day, but i still fall behind because i focus on one thing or can't focus at all.
for this website's layout i planned the style before doing everything. the last nekoweb website i had had an inconsistent design and it was throwing me off.
6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.: other webmasters' websites each did not impact me independently, i have a lot of them. my main inspo was windows 95 when i first started making websites.
7. What's your favourite part about making websites?: seeing how everything comes to its place and looks nice!
8. And the thing you struggle with the most?: time management! i feel and know that i have a lot to do, but i take too much time on little details that are often not that important.
9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?: everything is the same.
10. How confident are you with CSS?: i'm not that familiar with advanced css, but i think i am fine right now.
11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?: nope lol, never used it before actually
12. What is your favourite HTML element?: <div>, it's universal.
13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?: if it's in here, i first deal with the layout, because i already have a template of it.
14. Do you know JavaScript?: a bit, i will try to learn it more though.
15. How about PHP?: nah.
16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?: as you can see it's window styled with white, pink and black colors, and monospaced fonts.
17. Are you more focused on content or design?: content, the design isn't really important on its own to be honest, but it's cute(no).
18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?: no, and i think i'll get it later, i just don't have the money. and i don't feel confident since there are a lot work in progress pages, i need to finish them.
19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?: i really like them! kind of made me make websites.
20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?: the last time was a long time ago, right now i think the only problems are me not adding the alt="" for images.
21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?: i love them!
22. What do you think of button walls in particular?: also super cool.
23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?: i think i'll stick to this layout or change it a little bit. i can try something new if i will come up with a coherent idea for it.
24. Are you envious of other people's websites?: nope, they motivate me to enhance my website.
25. What text editor do you use?: visual studio code.
26. Why do you use that one?: it's convenient, i do all the coding stuff i have here.
27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?: since i host everything on neocities, the images are here too. my art is taking up the most storage though ;).
28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?: i like them both, well, since because i'm broke: free nekoweb supports all file types, free neocities has a storage of 5GB.
29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?: currently(october 2026) it is like 390MB.
30. Do you keep local backups of your files?: it's on my laptop for visual studio code so yes?
31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?: i love highly visual websites but keep mine pretty simple.
32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?: these are my favorite colors, and using alot of different colors kind of overwhelms me.
33. Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?: for now(october 2026) not at all, i haven't finished a lot of things here.
34. Do you have many webmaster friends, or is it a solitary hobby?: a solitary hobby, even though i know people who made websites before, i don't really discuss it.
35. Do people in your real life know about your website?: only people that are close to me.
36. Do you update your website very often? How often is "very often"?: sometimes i work on my other projects and can fall out for like a week, but the most of the time i try to update it as often as i want.
37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?: i don't change it because for some odd reason, big differences start to piss me off a lot.
38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?: hobby focused, even though i have a personal blog page.
39. Do you do web design professionally?: nope.
40. If not, would you like to? And if you're comfortable answering, what do you do for work?: even though i considered it, i don't think i'll make money since ai will take over ;(. i don't have a job.
41. Do you communicate with people by email very much?: before making websites i did not lol.
42. Some people reject social media and use websites as a replacement. Do you keep social media outside of your website?: only tiktok to be honest, and i want to quit it becasue it consumes too much of my time. fried my attention span beyond recognition.
43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?: i have both discord and telegram, but now i only use the last one since i only talk to people in my area.
44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?: yes! keeps me sitting without other distractions(music is one tho). it depends on my mood, but the most of the time it's electronic music or metal i like.
45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?: i use neocities as the main one, but i have some stuff stored on nekoweb too. i used github pages when i just started but i don't use it anymore.
46. On a similar note, do you keep to one topic on your site, or many?: i think i can talk about anything, but mostly it's all about my projects.
47. Do you present your real self, or at least try? Or do you construct a persona on purpose?: i try to be myself here, even though i might not be as
48. Have you ever made a good friend thanks to your website?: i think i overcomplicated my code and it could be better overall ;).
49. Are you happy with the way HTML and CSS currently work?: i guess it's fine.
50. What are practices that you think people should avoid?: i'm not sure what to answer but do. not. vibecode.
51. What about under-utilised practices, or things you think people should do more?: i don't know...
52. Do you use a lot of semantic HTML? Or are you guilty of generic structure?: i tried to make it semantic at first, but still most of the things are <span> and <div> of course.
53. Do you consider different browsers?: i don't really like changes, so no.
54. Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.: i unfortunately use chrome and i'm not convincing anyone brah. getting tired of the google ai answers every time i search up something.
55. And what OS are you on?: windows 11.
56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?: happened to use that, don't know if i should switch to a different one. i guess this one's convenient, but everyone has their own opinion.
57. Are your websites mobile-friendly?: i try to make them responsive and fit to look at on the phone.
58. What are your thoughts on autoplay?: depends on what does it actually play. usually i don't really like that, but i probably will use it on some of my future shrines.
59. What are your thoughts on webrings? Are you in any?: i like them and i'm in some of them, you can find a lot of cool people in different webrings.
60. Do you have any web shrines? What do you like to see in that sort of page?: i dedicated one for my kitty, for now.
61. Are your websites "cliche", in your opinion?: i think so, but if i cared about that, it wouldn't look like it looks now.
62. What is your ideal website? Are you striving for that, or forsomething else?: i don't have an ideal website visualized in any way, so no.
63. Are you an artist? Do you draw or design your own assets?: i love drawing. and yes i do that too.
64. What are your favourite resource sites?
65. Is there a habit you just can't get away from no matter how hard you try?: i don't get this question :(.
66. What's your biggest advice for a new webmaster?: i can't say since i'm pretty new too, but when i first started, i genuinely didn't know that you could make folders and i didn't make additional .html files and tried to store everything in index.html. it was terrible.
67. Do you keep all your styling in CSS? Or do you hard-code some?: i try to have them all in different css files, but still some things are inline styled.
68. What do you think of frameset layouts?: when i was a beginner, i really liked them. now i think it's a bit too complicated so i won't use that.
69. How about table-based layouts?: looks nice when styled correctly.
70. Do you subscribe to the ideas of "one-column", "two-column" and "three-column" layouts? Do you use any of these?: does mine count as a one-column one? i don't know.
71. Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?: depends.
72. Have you ever made a page with no CSS? It's useful for your thoughts.: no, and they are like inline styled?
73. Do you ever find yourself making layouts with nothing to put on them? Or do you only make layouts when the need arises?: i'm not that creative to make new layouts for nothing, i think i should work on that.
74. Would you consider yourself a beginner? Or advanced? Somewhere in the middle?: i think i'm a beginner to an intermediate level.
75. Do you have a habit of looking at the source code of websites you visit?: yes ;).
76. How did YOU learn how to make websites?: mostly i started with w3schools and still do. i also learn other, more advanced websites.
77. Do you ever force elements to do things they're not supposed to?
78. Thoughts on floating elements?: i should probably use that more, just couldn't find the occasion, or i'm not that creative with things.
79. When you're sizing stuff, what do you use first? Do you use px, em, %, or something else?: i use px even though a lot of people say that you shouldn't use it.
80. Do you have a favourite font?: i like monospaced fonts, and i think this one's my favorite since i'm not weary of it since 3 months.
81. Would you run a website with another person? How would that work?: that would be fun, i hope.
82. Do you surf the Web to find new personal websites very often?: yes, i like to look at personal profiles and blogs, i'm just nosy like that.
83. Do you bookmark other people's websites? How would you feel knowing someone else bookmarked yours?: well, i don't do that. i had a txt file with links to all websites i found interesting and/or wow-looking.
84. What do you want people to be most impressed with when they see your website?: i'm not sure. this all is just a big brain dump to me ;). at the very least i hope it looks adequate and what i write is coherent.
85. Are you interested in technology outside of websites? Do you collect?: i like learning about malware on every type of devices, it tingles my cyberphobia.
86. How often and for how long are you online?: i spend a lot of time here and find it more interesting than real life despite how unhealthy it sounds. i got my first ipad when i was 5 or 6. yes that was a big mistake.
87. When it comes to your website, who is your target audience?: probably people who also make websites, draw, make games and create characters.
88. Have you ever been interested in XHTML?: not really, just heard about it.
89. Do you program in general? Have you ever written a program for use with or on your website, not counting simple JavaScript?: no.
90. Speaking of programs that help you make websites, what do you think of static site generators (SSGs)? Have you ever used one?: just why? i think i'm misinterpretating things, but making static websites is literally the easiest thing ever. i don't respect people who can't lift a finger to do simple work.
91. Do you keep a hitcounter? Why or why not?: i have a flag counter right now.
92. Do you frequent forums? Which ones?: not really, only when i need something.
93. Do you write your page content directly into the editor, or do you prepare it elsewhere, like a text document or a Word document?: i use notes or other apps for that.
94. Do you think you appear cool to others? A more accurate answer now: do other people ever say you're cool?: haven't got a lot of visitors, but some people liked my website, i don't know if that counts.
95. Are you embarrassed of your old work? Have you ever deleted everything out of shame?: yes, and i'm not restoring that.
96. Would you close down your website if you couldn't update it, or would you leave an archive?: i don't know how to answer this, but i think that i would archive it.
97. Do you reveal a lot about yourself on your website? Or are you more secretive?: since i write personal blog post, i'm not that secretive anymore
98. Are you willing to reveal who your best online friend is, and/or if they have a website?: no and they don't have a website.
99. And do you optimise the images on your website?: i resize them.
